With the IT market changing on a day to day basis, it is very hard to keep your computer up to date. Most computers can be upgraded but some of the early computers can't, so if your system is over 6 years old (often less) you may want to contact our sales team for a cost of a new system.
Why Upgrade?
The reason for upgrading old systems is so that you can use all the latest products and services available in todays market. In most cases it is cheaper and more cost effective to buy a new system but with an upgrade you get the same system but faster which keeps it easy to use and familiar to what you are used to using.
What would need Upgrading?
This is a good question! In most cases you would need a power supply, mother board, processor, memory, video card and maybe the hard drive if it is of small capacity.
Most PCs made in the last 6 years are using PS/2 Mice and keyboards which in technical langauge is ATX format systems. AT systems can't be upgraded as the new computer componets will not fit an AT case (this is the PC box) So you would have to replace the PC. But we do have older systems in our store if you just wanted to get a couple more years out of it. When we upgrade any system we always backup you system and data and make notes of programs and settings.
Will I need to Upgrade My Software?
Yes! most of the older Operating System (OS) i.e. Windows 95 are not compatible with the new hardware and the hardware manufacturers do not make drivers for non-supported operating systems. The Windows Operating Systems that are no longer supported by Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 95A, Windows 95B and Windows 95C. The next Operating System to hit the Bin is Windows 98 & Windows 98SE (Second Edition).
Also if you are running Windows ME we would recommed you upgrade to a newer Operating System as Windows Millennium Edition is very unstable and can have problems ajusting to the new hardware.
When we upgrade your operating System we always back up all your data, making notes of your programs and settings before upgrading Operating System. We don't upgrade the OS we remove the older Operating System and install the new Operating Systems as it is most unwise to install an upgrade over the top of an older Operating System.
This is because there are problems with older drivers not being removed, problems with programs not working after the upgrade, windows is unstable, any problems that was there before are there after the upgrade and any virus or bugs are there after the upgrade.
If you have any questions on Upgrading your system(s) please feel free to contact us.
