Networking Services

Networking is a key player for home, small and large businesses from networking two computers to have a large domain network with 50 computers and servers. A network is much more stable in todays IT environment and like the older networks that use to run on BNC networks which were a ring of computers that were very slow and if there was a brake in the cable the whole network would crash. Todays networks use what is known as UTP which, depending on your hardware, can give you from 10, 100 and 1000mbps over the networking.

A network gives you the ability to share files and folders between computers. This is why most businesses that use computers have a Domain with workstations and servers so staff can access files, folders, databases and Internet thourgh the network without having to stay at one desk or having staff running round the office looking for files, folders, databases or going to a single internet computer they can easily access the information from their workstation.

With Domain Server networks you can restrict access to your stuff on the network unlike you would on two computers connected by a signal crossover cable. So if you wanted a member of staff not to have access to the payroll system for example you can simply restrict access on that user(s) from the server.

A home network is a much simpler setup you can have one workstation as your internet computer and your second workstation (desktop or laptop) can connect over the cable/network hub to the other computer and access the internet.

In todays world you don't have to have a cable network anymore! Most home networks use a wireless router or network hub to link computers together, even some businesses use the wireless technology to allow staff with laptops to access the network.

Below is a diagram to show you how a small network would work using a File Server, Wireless decives, shared printers, network printers, Firewall router, Network Switch(hub) workstations and a home computer connecting over the internet to the office using a VPN connection.
