This is a very strange bug in Microsoft Windows XP Professional but we haven't found the problem in any of the other XP Operating Systems as of yet. If you are using XP Home Edition or Media Centre and you have this problem please do let us know. The problem is when you open the My Computer screen and your Documents folder is missing but all the other users folders are there. Here's how to fix it...
- Click Start and then click Run
- In the Open box type regedit then press enter or click OK
- In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / Software / Microsoft / Windows / Current Version / Explorer / DocFolderPaths
- now right click in the right hand window and select New > String Value
- It will now have New Value #1 which is highlighted change New Value #1 to your user name
- Now double click your user name and enter the path to your documents folder ( ex. C:\Documents and Settings\username\your docs folder )
- Exit the Registry Editor and open My Computer and now your Documents folder is visable.
If it isn't visable restart your computer and then go back in to My Computer.
