When attempted to install the Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks Pro (older version see pic) webcam in to Windows Vista you will see that it is unable to find a driver for it. If you go to the Logitech website and look for your product you will find that there is NO driver or softwae for Windows Vista it says "This Camera will not work with Windows Vista. Please see our list of newer Vista compatible cameras". In fact it stinks of profiteering. When you look for Vista drivers they actually try to sell you one of their new and apparently Vista compatible models.
This webcam has works perfectly for a couple of our tech support guys and has done since they bought it, it’s a great product, as with most of Logitechs gear, but the decision to not release Vista drivers will certainly cause people to shop around for a new and cheaper product.
There is an easier way with a couple of very easy steps and you will find that this webcam works just as well in Windows Vista as it did in Windows XP.
(the ease of this makes Logitechs decision even harder to swallow)
- First download, Extract it to your desktop and Install our version QuickCam 11.0 software by clicking here. When it sits there asking you to plug in your webcam, plug your webcam in and Windows will start looking for a drive, leave the Logitech screen running.
- Once Windows can't find the driver it will give you an option to browse your local drive. Browse to your desktop then into qc1105/Drivers/Vista and select include sub folders…
- Now Vista will install the drivers for the webcam. Once it has finished go back to the Logitech screen and you will see it detecting the cam or you will see yourself on the screen.
- If Vista didn't find the drivers go to Device Manager, find the “Unknown Device" and choose to “Update the Driver”
- When it asks where the driver is, look in the folder where the decompressed QuickCam package is. It should be at “Desktop\qc1105\Drivers\Vista”
- That’s it!, Vista should install you webcam successfully and the latest Quickcam software should work perfectly with the Webcam.
Please note*
This fix was tested on all version of Windows Vista. If this fix/installation doesn't work or brakes your computer in anyway we cannot be held liyable for it, so please us this at your our risk!
